WRC champ Sebastien Ogier praises Monza finale

Must read

Newly-crowned world champion Sebastien Ogier has backed the decision to close this year’s FIA World Rally Championship at ACI Rally Monza.

Last weekend’s circuit-based event in northern Italy was a late call-up to the WRC’s calendar due to Coronavirus event cancellations and formed an exciting final round.

“I think we have to really congratulate the organiser [of ACI Rally Monza] and the people who made the event happen and gave us the chance to compete, because, at the end, it was a very challenging weekend,” said Sebastien Ogier, whose victory secured a seventh world title.

The mix of stages on and around the Monza track with a day in the challenging mountains close to Lake Como was a winner for Sebastien Ogier.

He added: “This mixture of having the show at the track, plus these really beautiful stages in the mountain make a good challenge for us. For me, it is worth it as a world championship event. So why not maybe coming back in the future?

“As a first time here, it has been good. I am convinced that there is potential to come back and to make it even better,” Sebastien Ogier added.

Co-driver Julien Ingrassia echoed those sentiments, saying: “I know how many people are working there to create such an event, so I really would like to say congrats to them.

“I think everything went well, they did it well and I can tell you that it was very weird here to go in the stage in one way, then the other way on the other day.

“And to put all the chicanes, all the signals in place, working during the night with this weather and everything with no mistakes from their part. They did a really great job,” Ingrassia added.
