Italian six points ahead with Miller third after first of two Misano MotoGP races.

Andrea Dovizioso hung in to finish seventh in Sunday’s San Marino GP after Frenchman Fabio Quartararo suffered a horror show in the first of two back-to-back Misano track races. Here is all you need to know:

– Italian Dovizioso came into the race three points behind the Yamaha rider overall with Spaniard Maverick Viñales on pole following Saturday qualifying.

– On race day, seven-time champion Valentino Rossi pushed Franco Morbidelli hard in the opening laps as Quartararo crashed twice to exit proceedings early.

– Spaniard Alex Rins and Italy’s Pecco Bagnaia pushed hard to close the gap on the leading pair with the Suzuki of Joan Mir also joining the fun in the closing laps.

– In the end, it was a cruise for Italian Morbidelli as he secured his maiden MotoGP victory for Yamaha after winning the Moto2 world championship title in 2017.

– Bagnaia finished strongly to bag his first MotoGP podium, despite walking on crutches on his return from injury, with Spaniard Mir edging Rossi for third place.

– Dovizioso finished seventh for Ducati to lead overall by six points from Quartararo with Australian Miller eighth for Ducati and Japan’s Takaaki Nakagami ninth.

– Spaniard Pol Espargaró was the first Red Bull over the line in 10th followed by Styrian GP winner Miguel Oliveira in 11th, Czech GP victor Brad Binder in 12th and Red Bull KTM Tech3’s Iker Lecuona in 14th.

– Frenchman Johann Zarco grabbed the final point in 15th with Álex Márquez 17th for Repsol Honda as teammate Stefan Bradl of Germany ended 18th racing in place of the injured Marc Márquez.

– MotoGP stays put in Misano for a midweek test and then the Emilia Romagna GP next Sunday where the compressed 2020 season will reach its halfway point.
